it snowed a little here

it was a light dusting of snow a couple of nights back - there is more on the way i'm sure ....

this morning all the snow had melted away but it was still cold with a frigid fog covering the bay

still i enjoy the view of clouds above and below whilst sitting in a warm room with a view

a few more from the trip

there is a constant warm ocean breeze that blows through here - sweeping back the leaves of palm trees that slowly sway back and forth

a rainbow sits above a breaking wave at the north shore pipeline

every once in a while it is nice to sit back by a quiet poolside - take in the warmth of the sun - watch the clouds go by - sip a pretty drink that comes with a little paper umbrella

ofcourse sometimes only a cool pint of local brew can hit the spot

japanese pine brought over by immigrants a time time ago grows unabated on the central plateau

a cousin took me onto his quaint fishing boat that has the look and the smell of one

nice places

the afternoon sun's rays shines through the foliage on a road that runs along the eastern coast of the big island

so tired - after dragging itself up the beach to .....

vines grow long and strong in some of the forests around here

morning view of hilo

a stream runs through here

a tree on a tiny lonely piece of land on a small lake sits quietly ....

except for the sounds of a hundred birds living in its branches

the prerequisite lantern in this japanese noodle restaurant beckons diners at this seaside resort town

for a family get-together, an elderly gentleman prepares a 60 lb beef roast for the ensuing feast

warmer

palm trees sway back and forth amidst warm trade winds in the mild island winter

a palm tree on the edge of a vast and blue ocean

majestic views of volcanoes surround this four season's golf course

rainbows are common in these here parts where rain falls on more days than not

it all starts with a flight out of a city in the contiguous united states as the sun rises in the eastern winter sky

the view from the hotel - there's not much to see - mostly hotels and apartment buildings sprawling up near the waterfront

but there are some beautiful sights to behold - a bright rainbow arches over a field of grass that stretches almost as far as the horizon following a brief shower

and this beautiful glass of beer - i believe this one is a blonde bock from our friends at gordon biersch

in a remote rural village, a young girl stands still - mesmerized by the glow and cacophony of the fireworks that she has just set off on one fine new years eve

it is quite an impressive sight

meanwhile, back in the hustle and bustle of the main tourist regions, visitors from the mainland and asian countries crowd a downtown shopping mall late into the wee hours

an old house surrounded by palm trees weathers the tropical weather - but not all too well ....

christmas in the wintertime

in this holiday season, there are signs that winter may finally be upon us .....

and in case i forget - best wishes to you on this holiday - i hope you are finding joy surrounded by the warmth and comfort of your families where ever you may be .....

i find that a christmas tree, no matter how small .....

or a string of lights however hastily slung over a window ..... can still bring out the christmas spirit in all of us .... merry christmas !!!
